How is the “same mind” of Christ showing up in you this week?“As you walk the road with the Chosen One, have you gained from him courage for the journey? Have you found comfort in his love? Our series Following Jesus begins to walk with Jesus’ followers in Philippi. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Philippians while he was in prison. From his place of pain and suffering, Paul writes encouragement, hope, and even joy. “Rejoice in the Lord always!” we will hear. And, “forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal...” And this Sunday from the second chapter of Philippians, we hear the marvelous Christ hymn that sings of Christ emptying himself in humility then being raised in glory, with the encouragement from Paul to “let the same mind” be in us that was in Christ Jesus: that of a humble servant, giving love, bringing peace. How is the “same mind” of Christ showing up in you this week? In your surroundings? Jot it down, bring it in! Let us encourage one another as we follow Jesus on the Way together. |

Upcoming EventsSunday, Sept. 27 – Blessing of Fountain in Memorial Garden after worship. Everyone is invited to process out to the Memorial Garden after worship for a prayer & blessing of the fountain. Sunday, Sept. 27 – Provide dinner to The Lot on 22nd, a nonprofit unaffiliated group that sets up on an empty lot on 22nd St. between Swan and Columbus, to share a meal and smile with approximately 100 people in need. Beautiful Savior has committed to providing the meal once a month, generally the last Sunday of each month. This month we are looking for cooked donations of macaroni & cheese, little smokies, and fresh carrot sticks. If you can donate food, please contact Betsy Korsmo (bkozz@icloud.com or 520-425-6713) to let her know WHAT and HOW MUCH. Monday-Thursday, Sept. 28-Oct. 1 - Drop off your donations for our Rummage/Yard Sale during church office hours (9am-3pm) in the alcove of Werner Hall. We take household items, clothing, shoes, books, jewelry, holiday decorations, working electronics to name just a few. We also need lots of bags, so please donate your plastic grocery bags. Monday-Friday, Sept. 28-Oct. 2 - We are looking for helpers to price and sort donated items for the rummage/yard sale. Please help out, even if you can only come for an hour or two one day. Notes on NotesWhere are your thoughts drawn to during the Sending song “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms?” If you’re like me, you probably feel the upbeat rhythm, and the catchy tune sweeps you into a care-free and relaxed feeling of safety and security in God’s everlasting arms. But it’s worth knowing that the song actually has a more somber and thought-provoking origin since it was born out of loss and grief. The death of the wives of two of Anthony. J. Showalter’s former music students prompted him to write a letter of consolation to the bereaved students. Intermediate (Landscape) Acrylic Painting ClassLearn to paint a favorite landscape with your acrylic paints! (It is highly recommended that those interested in this course have taken the beginners course first). A class consists of up to six three-hour sessions, two per week for three weeks, with a maximum of five students. Painting classes will be held in the Luther Room at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church; once I find out how many are interested we can discuss which days and times work best for everyone. Jenny and TimJenny and Tim — The United States Army Air Corps, precursor to America’s military air forces, was created 100 years ago. Beautiful Savior's Tim Tarris, a retired Air Force fighter pilot, will speak about the US Army Air Corps and the 3/4 scale biplane he built to observe USAAC's 100th anniversary this year. The JN-4 "Jenny" was the basic trainer in World War I. Tim's plan was to fly the replica aircraft to all lower 48 states, arriving in Virginia July 2. His trip was cut short when strong winds lifted and crashed his plane after landing in Colorado. Tim was badly injured but recovered. He and his wife, Vicky, are completing the route in their motorhome, going to many of the planned stops. Tim will speak in the Sanctuary on the USAAC centennial and on his adventures piloting the small aircraft through mountain valleys and challenging conditions in Western states. |

Sunday WorshipWelcome into our community today as we seek to follow the one who gathers us. We gather in the unity of Christ and are all invited to the Lord’s Table. He is the host —we are all guests. We celebrate that Jesus came to us and continues to come to us. In faith we receive the body and blood of our Lord and Savior. We believe that he did this “for you.” We welcome ALL to Communion for it is the Lord’s Table and Jesus’s gift of grace to the world.
