Rejoice always!Letter from Pastor Annemarie “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.” The Apostle Paul urges us to rejoice always. Always! Sure, Paul. Whatever you say. Haven’t you read the news lately? Should I rename you from Paul to Pollyanna? Haven’t you peeked inside my home, my school, my workplace, my neighborhood? Well, Paul hasn’t but God has. In fact, God is already in those very places of struggle, discord, pain, suffering. God knows, God cares, God loves… and we are called to rejoice. For the love of God in Christ gives us the grace to see through those struggles to the strong power of God’s love working in them. And the grace to be agents of Christ’s healing and peace following Jesus to the lost, the least, the lonely. God’s angels on earth, in God’s grace. Building bridges of understanding, forgiveness, reconciliation, love. We must remember God is present especially when we can’t perceive God’s presence. After all, on an overcast day.... Notes on NotesNotes on Sunday's Special Music - “Think On These Things" In 2013, when Craig Courtney composed the anthem “Think On These Things,” he wrote the following title notation: “To honor Dick and Martha Crofts, recognizing and celebrating their thirty years of faithful service to Moorings Presbyterian Church and a lifetime of service to God.” The church’s website lists them as former Directors of Music, so clearly, music and the scriptures were central to their lives, so it’s not surprising that this anthem is an almost-word-for-word, direct quote of Philippians 4:8-9 (King James Version): “Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good repute; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things . . . and the God of peace shall be with you.” Musically, the anthem has 3 sections with lyrics that describe... Name Your “Saint” for All Saints Day
You are invited to remember those who've gone before during Beautiful Savior's observance of All Saints' Day Nov. 1. The day is a Christian feast honoring all saints, known and unknown, who have passed into eternal life. It reflects the belief in a spiritual bond linking the living and the dead. This should be a personal remembrance for you and the church family. Beginning Sunday, Oct. 11, we will have a special cloth on which we invite you to write names of loved ones who've passed as well as the names of the living you view as saints in your life. The cloth and a fabric marker will be on a table in the entryway, and will be used as the altar cloth on Nov. 1.
