This week’s Holy Gospel is about the death of Lazarus and it reminded me about the terrible cost of loss in our world..

There is a song titled: I Stand With Humanity by Dave Costa whose lyrics are so profound to ponder.

I do not raise a flag to choose a side,

No borders guide the place where I abide.

For lines on maps were drawn by human hands,

Yet sorrow walks through every wounded land.....

Spring Gathering with the Bishop, Saturday, March 28 9am-10:30am at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church (1200 North Campbell Avenue). Everyone is invited to join this gathering as the Grand Canyon Synod gathers under the theme Rooted in God’s Story. In a season marked by rapid change and uncertainty, gathering face-to-face reminds us who we are and whose we are. We are people rooted in Christ, connected across Arizona, southern Nevada, St. George, and the Navajo Nation, and sent into the world in hope.

Together, we remain Rooted in God’s Story—grounded in Christ and moving forward as one synod.

Sunday, March 22 - Baptism of Grady Michael Mutari during worship.

Sundays—Bible Study after worship. We gather in the Conference Room to continue our study of the first five books of the Hebrew Bible. Led by Pastor Richard Mauthe.

Tuesdays in Lent—Ponder with a Pastor at 11am in the Luther Room. Lenten devotion & discussion.

Tuesday, March 24—Pint with the People at 6:30pm. Come to Catalina Brewing Company (6918 N Camino Martin), grab a beverage of choice and settle in for good conversation about faith and life.

Saturday, March 28—Spring Gathering with the Bishop, 9am-10:30am at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church (1200 North Campbell Avenue). Everyone is invited to join this gathering of the Grand Canyon Synod.

Saturday, March 28—Church Work Day, 7am-11am. Our work day will be for sprucing up our building and grounds before Easter. Some projects are: changing air filters, parapet sealing, cleaning sidewalks, courtyard & parking areas, cleaning windows, paint touch-ups. Bring your battery operating tools, buckets, & newspaper.

Sunday, March 29—Dinner at The Lot on 22nd. We need egg salad/chicken salad sandwiches, chips, and cookies. Questions or if you can donate food, contact Betsy Korsmo (520-425-6713 or bkozz@icloud.com)

Tuesday, March 31—Movies That Matter at 10am in the conference room.  We will be watching Quo Vadis. Rome burns. Nero fiddles. Christianity rises. Quo vadis is a Latin phrase meaning "Where are you going?". It is commonly translated from John 13:36. This film received 9 Oscar awards.

Next Sunday is Palm Sunday worship at 9am where we begin in the courtyard outside and then process into the sanctuary waving our palms.

On Maundy Thursday, April 2, at 7:00 pm, our worship team will present a musical drama, “God So Loved.” Beautiful choir music and newly composed dramatic monologues for seven followers of Jesus will convey the message of God's transformative love and mercy. Holy Communion will be included during the musical. 

Life and death stand side by side as we enter into Good Friday, April 3 at 7pm.  Join us for a Tenebrae worship service reminding us of the passion of Christ.

Join us on Saturday, April 4 at 9am to decorate the sanctuary for Easter Sunday.

Resurrection of Our Lord: Easter Day, April 5 at 8am and 10am. This is the day the Lord has made! Christ is risen, and through him all creation is made new! Join us at 9am for Easter breakfast in Werner Hall.

THANK YOU to everyone who donated items and/or assembled Manna Bags last Sunday.  Between our Academy students & our congregation, we assembled roughly 300 manna bags!  Now, remember to take a few bags with you to hand out to those in need.

FLIM Golf Classic—Monday, March 30 at the Oro Valley Country Club. Grab a group of friends and sign up as a team!  Registration forms are on the website and the table in the gathering area.  This is the 27th year for Fund for Leaders In Mission (FLIM).  It provides scholarships to seminary students pursuing rostered   ministry (pastor or deacon) within the ELCA, aiming to reduce/eliminate student debt.   

TIHAN (Tucson Interfaith HIV/AIDS Network) CarePackages—BSLCA is helping sponsor the POZ café luncheon in April by collecting: bottles of liquid hand soap, cans of shaving cream,  disposable hand razors, and at least 1 more gift cards for $15.00 each, from either Walmart,  Target, or Fry's, plus $400 cash that goes towards the cost of the meal that will be served that day.  See Janice Molina & her jar to donate.

We gather in the unity of Christ and are all invited to the Lord’s Table. He is the host —we are all guests. We celebrate that Jesus came to us and continues to come to us.  In faith we receive the body and blood of our Lord and Savior. We believe that he did this “for you.” We welcome ALL to Communion for it is the Lord’s Table and Jesus’s gift of grace to the world.
