First Sunday of AdventLetter from Pastor Richard Tomorrow we mark the beginning of another liturgical year in the life of the Church---The First Sunday in Advent. Advent has been marked for many years among Christians, as the season provides four Sundays of preparation for the coming of the Messiah, Jesus. It is meant to be a time of reflection, meditation, spiritual preparation, and remembering one’s baptism. Of course the world “celebrates” Advent for a totally different reason: preparing for the “Big Day” by turning up the volume dial about materialism. But the coming of Jesus is meant to be the relief that God had promised through the prophets: relief from pain, suffering, dysfunction, prejudice, hopelessness, and all those things that drag us down. Sunday, Nov. 30—Bible Study after worship. We gather in the Conference Room to continue our study of the first five books of the Hebrew Bible. We are finishing up Exodus. The class will continue through December, with a holiday break on Dec. 21 and 28. Sunday, Nov. 30—Team meeting for Happy Birthday, Jesus Kid’s camp in the Luther room after worship. Monday, Dec. 1 - Messiah Sing-In 7pm at Christ Community Church. The Messiah, by George Friderich Handel, is divided into three parts which represent Christ’s birth, death and resurrection. For more than 250 years now, this great and popular piece still holds its extraordinary grip on the musicians playing and singing as well as the audience members alike. We will be carpooling to Christ Community Church (530 S Pantano Rd) from our (BSLC) parking lot at 6:30pm. Saturday, Dec. 6—Vintage Jewelry Sale in Werner Hall from 8am-Noon. Just in time for Holiday shopping, come out and shop at our Vintage Jewelry Sale. A wide variety of boxed vintage jewelry including rings, earrings, necklaces, matching sets, bracelets. Also, a few watches, charms and Christmas jewelry. The items are new and in original jewelry boxes. All the proceeds go to charities designated by our Women’s Bible group, Joy Circle. The sale is Cash Only. Sunday. Dec. 14 - 2 Special Congregation Meetings in Werner Hall after worship. The first meeting will be to discuss & vote on the 2026 Mission Plan. The second meeting will be to discuss & vote on SolarGain’s solar system proposal. |
