Holden VillageLetter from Pastor Tony Since I have returned from my continuing education experience at Holden Village I have received many questions regarding this very special place. Holden is basically the ELCA’s flagship RETREAT CENTER that is open for public use as well as church members. Here is a brief description: Holden Village is located in the North Cascade mountains, an area rich in geologic history. Holden Village is in its seventh decade of operation as a retreat center, emerging from the challenges of mine remediation, forest fires, and the pandemic, and looking ahead with a vision to continue expanding welcome to the wilderness. Holden was a mining village until the mine closed in 1957. In 1960, Howe Sound Mining Company deeded the Village to the Lutheran Bible Institute in Seattle; programs began in 1962. The disruptions of mine clean-up in 2012-2015, forest fires, and the pandemic have been key events of the last decades. Holden reopened in 2021, and thousands of guests are now returning to the Village, most of whom come in the summer months and stay for about a week.... For more infomation visit:

ELCA Churchwide AssemblyCatch up on all that happened! Daily updates for the 2025 ELCA Churchwide Assembly are available on Living Lutheran. Rev. Yehiel Curry to serve as fifth presiding bishop of the ELCA. When Yehiel Curry considers his vision for the future of the church, he sees an important distinction. “Part of the work is naming it,” he said, “but that next phase is embodying it. Before he became a pastor, then a bishop, then the chair of the Conference of Bishops, and now presiding bishop-elect, he was a social worker, then a teacher, then in sales. “I went from being a social worker to a teacher in the same community where I was helping those families, and in both cases, what I learned is passion is very important. And if you can align a person’s passion with a need, then it doesn’t feel like work sometimes. Key actions before the assembly include the social statement “Faith and Civic Life: Seeking the Well-being of All” and its proposed implementing resolutions; and proposed editorial changes to the social statement “Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust.” Voting members will review proposed amendments to the ELCA’s constitution and adopt a budget. Other voting measures include electing 20 people to the Church Council and others to churchwide boards and committees.
