| Life TogetherLetter from Pastor Tony Life Together is Such as Time as This This past week I participated in the Bishop’s Gathering in Scottsdale where we were led by the President of Wartburg Seminary and Rev. Dr. S. Helen Chukka who is the Assistant Professor of Hebrew Bible, Wartburg Theological Seminary. This discussion was one that followed Dietrick Bonehoffer’s book, “Life Together” and the discussion of lament and hope in troubled times such as the ones we are going through in today’s culture and the political division of our country. I would like to share with you some of my reflections on loneliness, which is a part of the lament we are going through as a nation. We also reflected on the Old Testament stories from the Israelites on loss and lament. Dr. Chukka said that we are a lonely society as a result of our divisions. In fact, studies show that there is actually an epidemic of loneliness as trust is down in so many institutions including the church... For more infomation visit:

 Sunday, Oct. 12—Bible Study in the conference room after worship. Tuesday, Oct. 14—Women’s Bible Study at 9:30am in the Luther Room. All women of any age are invited to join this group. Come enjoy new friends, a snack and a Bible study. You may contact Barbara Peterson at 520-222-5160, Cozyteapot2@cox.net if you have any questions. Tuesday, Oct. 14—Pint with a Pastor at 6:30pm. Come out to Catalina Brewing Company, grab a beverage of choice and settle in for good conversation about faith and life, led by Pastor Tony. Wednesday, Oct. 15—The Chosen at 10am in the conference room. Join us to watch The Chosen series Season 3 with discussion time afterwards. Season Three picks up where Season Two left off, with Jesus delivering the most famous sermon in history. What follows are the consequences of living out his teachings. The world changes because of the Sermon on the Mount, and the believers in (and enemies of) Jesus increase exponentially. Saturday, Oct. 18—Work day starting at 7am, meet in the kitchen. Everyone is asked to come and help out with various projects to help clean up and maintain our lovely campus. Some projects for the work day are: change filters, check items to be fixed for the Academy, trimming of trees and shrubs, blow out and sweep the parking lots and curbs, clean sound dampening fixtures high up in Werner Hall using the lift, spray paint black fences outside Werner Hall. If anyone has small battery operating vacuum cleaners, please bring them along. Also, please bring any manual, electric, or battery-operated tools for trimming about the property. |

 A Call for Nomination for Congregation Council We are looking for individuals that would like to be on the Congregation Council. We will have 4 vacancies to be voted on Nov. 2 to start the terms in January. There are 3 two year terms and 1 one year term that will be open.  Chat with an Anesthesiologist Sunday, Oct. 26 at 3pm Invite all your friends & family and plan to attend this presentation by Craig Johnson and hosted by the Health & Wellness Committee here at BSLC. An “Intro to Anesthesia” covering types of anesthesia, types of “providers”, some of the drugs used, effects on bodily functions, how we monitor and alter those effects, common side effects, complications and answering your questions about anesthesia. 
 Come out and participate in our Academy's Trunk Or Treat! Decorate your trunk or truck bed, Dress up, if you wish, and hand out your candy and prizes to all our little goblins (oops, I mean, students!) on Friday, Oct. 31 at 9:15am in the Academy & church parking lot.  Quarterly Congregation Meeting—Sunday Nov. 2 After worship on Sunday, November 2, we will have our quarterly congregation meeting. One item on the agenda will be reviewing and voting on the revised/updated BSLC Constitution and Bylaws. If you would like to see the changes before the meeting, please contact Jenni (520-744-2665 or office@beautifulsavior.net) for a copy. Another agenda item will be voting in Congregation Council members who will start their term on January 1. 
 Save the Date! Worship in the Park & Picnic—Sunday, Nov. 9 Long-time members will recall the fun and fellowship we enjoyed at church picnics a few years ago. We have reserved the ramada and tables at Denny Dunn Park, just down the hill from the church at 4400 W Massingale Rd, Tucson. An ad hoc group of Mark Mittelstadt, Andy Anderson, Al Steichen, Don Swanson and Pete Pederson are putting it together. If you have suggestions please contact one of them. We are working on details and will have more information soon. But note the date and plan to attend! |
