You are invited to remember those who've gone before during Beautiful Savior's observance of All Saints' Day Nov. 1.
The day is a Christian feast honoring all saints, known and unknown, who have passed into eternal life. It reflects the belief in a spiritual bond linking the living and the dead.
This should be a personal remembrance for you and the church family. Beginning Sunday, Oct. 11, we will have a special altar cloth on which we invite you to write names of loved ones who've passed as well as the names of the living you view as saints in your life. The cloth and a marker will be on a table in the entryway.
The cloth includes marigolds painted by Stan Thorud and Kathy Carter. Known in Mexico as cempasucuchil, marigolds are the iconic flower of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), used to guide the spirits of deceased loved ones back to the world of the living.
The cloth will be draped on the altar during the service. It is among several touches we are adding to this year's observance, including a processional and special music throughout. Also, for coffee hour you are encouraged to bring and share foods that were special to your family or loved ones.
