Who was your favorite teacher?  Why?

Who was your best teacher?  What made them your best teacher?  Was it the same as your "favorite"?

What makes a teacher?  What makes a student?  They are both "jobs."  They are both "callings."

Jesus is called "Rabbi/Rabbouni"- "Teacher."  He calls us "disciples" - "students."

How might we learn from the teacher?  How might we practice his lessons?  What homework does he give us?

When Jesus sent out the disciples in pairs to proclaim the Good News in word and deed, he told them to "knock the dust off your sandals" anywhere they were not welcomed. An old Rabbinic blessing went something like this, "May the dust of your rabbi's feet cling to the hem of your robe."

(AKA- follow your teacher so closely that the dirt they kick up as they walk with you hits you before it falls back to the ground.) What dust do we need to knock off our feet, and how might we move closer to Jesus so that his dust clings?

This Sunday we will give thanks and pray for all who are involved in education. For the sermon, we will have an interview with one of our members who works in education and hear how faith and work connect for her. May we learn something for our own walk with Jesus in the world.
