Happy New Year!

Is it? Has it?

What has changed? How have you changed?

For the date on the calendar was going to change regardless of anything we did, or did not do.  If you want things to actually be different, you need to be different.

So what will you do? Or stop doing?

Epiphany is the season of “manifestation,” or “revealing.”  The lessons tell us how God was revealed in Jesus Christ, how God was made “manifest” or “known.”

It is usually a season of light, modeled after the star that the Magi followed, and in reference to the Light of the World- Jesus Christ.  It begins with the Baptism of Jesus and the Spirit descending upon him and the revealing words, “You are my Son, the Beloved; in you I am well pleased.”

In our baptism, we were united to Christ, sealed by the Holy Spirit, and marked with the cross of Christ forever.  We died and rose again, so that we could walk in newness of life.  We were then challenged to “let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (See Matthew 5 and Romans 6 for more on this.)

So, how are you doing?  What are you doing?

How has this new life that has come to you made your life new?

How has grace, love, peace, mercy, compassion, service, joy been made known to you, and made known by you?

The gift has come to us.  The blessing has been given.

We are blessed to be a blessing!

For this year, how will you let your light shine to the world around you?

This is the day and the year that the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

May those we interact with see the light of God shining forth, and know the grace, peace, and love of Jesus Christ!

May we embody the good news of Christ, and may we be instruments of his love for the entire world.

Remember that God loves you, and so do I!

Pastor David
